Streaking FEU maintained its hold of first place with a 4-0 record, ahead of defending champion Ateneo De Manila who sit at 3-1.

Far Eastern University is still number one in the UAAP Season 80 men's volleyball tournament.

The Tamaraws survived UP's challenge Saturday at the San Juan Arena, taking a hard-fought 30-28, 25-21, 24-26, 25-16 win.

Streaking FEU maintained its hold of first place with a 4-0 record, ahead of defending champion Ateneo De Manila who sit at 3-1.

The Tamaraws were pushed to the brink by the Fighting Maroons in the opening set. However, a powerful kill by Jude Garcia and a big block by Peter Quiel allowed FEU to charge for the win, 30-28.

FEU was on its way to a sweep but collapsed late in the third set.

The Tamaraws were on match point, 24-22, but surrendered four straight points as UP extended the match.

Fortunately, FEU recovered in time to comfortably take the fourth set.

"UP kasi given na sa kanila yung mataas yung fighting spirit, yun yung di talaga nawawala sa UP. Siguro yun yung nawala sa mga bata naman nung nanalo UP [sa third set]," head coach Rey Diaz said.

Four players finished in double figures for the Tamaraws led by team captain Richard Solis with 19 points, 16 from attacks.

Jude Garcia added 14 while JP Bugaoan dropped 13 points.

The Fighting Maroons got 12 points from Wendel Miguel but it wasn't enough for UP who dropped to 1-3 in the standings.
