Far Eastern University and University of the Philippines battle to put a stop to their respective losing skids Sunday in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
After opening their campaigns on a high note, both the Lady Tamaraws and Lady Maroons went south dropping consecutive matches.
Each wants to return in the win column when they meet at 4:00 p.m. in the duel that will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA on SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD on SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.
FEU and UP are in a four-way tie at 1-2 win-loss slates in fourth to seventh spots with University of Sto. Tomas and Ateneo de Manila University.
The Lady Tams dropped a second straight five-setter match Wednesday against two-time defending champion De La Salle University, 2-25, 17-25, 26-24, 25-23, 7-15, in a game that saw FEU throw away 46 points off errors.
The Morayta-based squad is suffering from error woes as the Lady Tams, whose three games went the full distance, average 38 errors per game in three outings or 7.6 errors per set.
While FEU is error-prone, the Lady Maroons has been struggling with their service reception.
Adamson University took advantage of UP’s poor reception to eke out a 25-9, 27-25, 25-20, win over the Lady Maroons, who gave away 17 points to the Lady Falcons from the service line.
UP’s reception was so bad that in the opening set, Adamson scored eight service aces with Mylene Paat scoring six in that frame alone.
