UAAP VOLLEYBALL: NU bites first back-to-back wins

National University swept De La Salle University to score its first winning run of the season.
Bryan Bagunas showed his attacking prowess as he led National University to its first winning run in the 80th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament Sunday with a 27-25, 25-16, 25-20, drubbing of De La Salle University at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The national team member unleashed 14 vicious attacks on his way to posting a game-high 16t points while adding six excellent receptions for the Bulldogs, who scored another dominating win following a straight sets demolition of University of the East a week ago.
NU improved to 3-1 win-loss slate for a tie at second to third spots with archrival three-time defending champion Ateneo de Manila University.
Fauzi Ismail and James Natividad added 12 markers each for the Bulldogs, who outgunned the Green Spikers in attacks, 44-32, and played solid defense at the net with 11 kill blocks.
DLSU absorbed its second straight defeat to fall to 1-3 slate tied with University of the Philippines.
Arjay Onia and Raymark Woo scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the Taft-based squad.
