Grand slam-seeking De La Salle University cross paths with another unbeaten team National University with a hold of the solo lead at stake.
Two-time defending champion De La Salle University and National University put their pristine records and grip of the lead on the line Sunday in a battle of heavyweight teams in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Both teams hurdled their first three assignments for a share of the lead.
Now, only one team will emerge unscathed after the marquee battle set tl ignite at 2:00 p.m.
The match will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA on SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD on SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.
The Lady Spikers turned back Far Eastern University in five sets, 25-22, 25-17, 24-26, 23-25, 15-7, on Valentine’s Day.
DLSU coach Ramil De Jesus braces for a tough challenge against an intact NU squad led by 6-foot-5 Jaja Santiago backstopped by Jorelle Singh, Risa Sato, setter Jasmine Nabor and Aiko Urdas.
“Ang NU naman kasi, isa sa talagang kumpleto din yun, halos wala namang nawala sa team na yun,” said De Jesus. “So new coach, new system, so makikita naming. We’ll see sa Sunday.
Graduating players reigning Most Valuable Player Majoy Baron, Kim Kianna Dy and libero Dawn Macandili will lead a deep Lady Spikers side with Des Cheng, Aduke Ogunsanya and rising sophomore setter Michelle Cobb.
The Lady Bulldogs are fresh from a one-week break following a 25-15, 18-25, 25-23, 25-19, victory over listless University of the East.
