Here comes Nazareth School of National University, with a full head of steam entering the Finals of the Season 80 UAAP Juniors Basketball Tournament.
Running roughshod on helpless University of Sto. Tomas, the Bullpups rushed their way onto a 91-72 rout on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Terrence Fortea and Miguel Oczon were at the forefront of the onslaught, firing 17 and 16 points, respectively, to shoot their team onto the championship round where they challenge still undefeated Ateneo de Manila High School.
Fortea and Oczon, along with Paul Manalang and Winderlich Coyoca, also combined for 10 triples that, in all, took the fight out of Season MVP CJ Cansino and the Tiger Cubs.
It was also those two players who merged for 14 points in the 17-1 run that erased a one-point deficit in the first into a 32-17 advantage in the second.
NU would not look back from there as the likes of Manalang, Coyoca, and Rhayyan Amsali only joined in on the fun that had them mount a lead of as much as 22.
The emphatic win gives the Bullpups all the confidence in the world as they enter the best-of-three Finals against the Blue Eaglets.
Ateneo went 2-0 up against NU in the elimination round.
However, these boys from Sampaloc are more determined than ever to take down their unbeaten rivals.
Game 1 of that big-time showdown will be on Friday still at the same venue. All of the action starts at 2:00 PM and will be LIVE on S+A, S+A HD, and sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap.
For UST, RJ Baquial and Jezreel Villapando topped the scoring column with 16 points apiece.
Cansino was shut down to just 10 points in 29 percent shooting along with 16 rebounds, seven assists, and four turnovers.
