Grand slam-seeking De La Salle University demolished University of the East to get back in the win column.
Two-time defending champion De La Salle University vented its ire on the hapless University of the East Lady Warriors, 25-18, 25-17, 25-20, Wednesday to get back on the winning track of the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Spikers easily dismantled the Lady Warriors for their fourth win in five games to stay at solo second spot. DLSU’s win erased the bitter loss it suffered last Sunday at the hands of unbeaten National University (4-0) in five sets.
Reigning Most Valuable Player Majoy Baron and Desiree Cheng led the Lady Spikers with 13 points each while Aduke Ogunsanya got 12 markers. Kim Kianna Dy and May Luna combined for 14 points while Michelle Cobb dished out 35 excellent sets for the Taft-based squad, who closed the match in 83 minutes.
DLSU made short work of UE but Lady Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus was far from satisfied, in fact he even gave his team some tongue-lashing after the match.
“Well, yung result importante 'yun eh. Pero yung performance, hindi ako satisfied sa performance today,” he said.
“Hindi mo makita 'yung aggressiveness inside the court, and 'yung communication inside the court, so, 'yung polish hindi mo makita,” De Jesus added. “So 'yun 'yung medyo disappointed ako.”
UE dropped to 0-5 and absorbed its 12th straight defeat since last year.
Mary Anne Mendrez and Shaya Adorador finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Lady Warriors.
