Far Eastern University crushed University of the East in straight set to claim its fifth win in as many games.
Far Eastern University charged to its fifth straight win after crushing the listless University of the East Red Warriors, 25-15, 25-16, 25-22, Saturday in the 80th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
It took the Tamaraws only 73 minutes to dispose the Red Warriors as FEU kept its tight grip of the solo lead and remained unscathed with just two games left in the first round.
Head coach Rey Diaz had the chance to field all of his players with the Morayta-based squad dominating the whole match against an embattled team that saw its mentor Sammy Acaylar resign from his post just a day before.
John Paul Bugaoan started in all sets and delivered 12 points with all but one coming off attacks for FEU, which still has National University and University of Sto. Tomas in its checklist of opponents in the opening round.
Skipper Richard Solis finished with 11 points including nine of the Tams’ 46 attack points while adding seven digs. National team member Peter Quiel played in just two sets before calling it a day and chipped in seven markers for the Tams.
The Red Warriors dropped to 0-6 slate.
Clifford Inoferio and Noel Alba scored eight points each for UE, which will wrap the first round on March 4 against Adamson University.
