UAAP 80 Men’s Football: Ateneo demolishes UE, 5-0
"I think it showed in the game that everybody wanted to win this and everybody was willing to work hard for it.”

Jarvey Gayoso scored twice while three others also chipped in as the defending champion Ateneo Blue Eagles dismantled the UE Red Warriors, 5-0, in UAAP Season 80 Men’s Football action, Sunday morning at the FEU Diliman Football Field.

Looking to bounce back from a stunning loss to UST a week ago, the Blue Eagles got off to a quick start with Enzo Ceniza drawing first blood in the 13th minute, before reigning MVP Gayoso doubled their lead just before the midgame break.

The defending champs showed no signs of slowing down in the second half, as Renko Gaudiel made it a 3-0 lead for Ateneo in the 50th minute.

Gayoso blasted in his second goal of the morning in the 61st minute, and Ryan Haosen put the finishing touches to the Ateneo win in the 79-minute mark to make it a dominant 5-0 win.

“It feels good, everybody was determined from the very start. It was a lot more of our mentality towards coming into this game, we weren’t pressured by the loss and having to get back, we were just thinking about our game, thinking about wanting this win, and I think it showed in the game that everybody wanted to win this and everybody was willing to work hard for it.” Gayoso told ABS-CBN Sports after the match.

Following their loss to UST last Sunday, Gayoso said that he felt that the whole team was having an off game. That wasn’t the case against UE, as the Blue Eagles mounted the season’s second-highest win margin so far this season, behind only FEU’s 7-0 drubbing of Adamson, Thursday.

Gayoso says that a big part of it is having a full week to prepare.

“One is that we had a week of preparation for this game. From the very start pa lang, we wanted to make sure that when it comes to this game, we wouldn’t be wasting our time for the entire week, training, and just being off.”

“Of course, it also came in that we were able to rest, so it helped us and we were able to recover mentally and physically also.” Gayoso added.

The Blue Eagles improve to three wins and two losses for nine points, while UE drops to a win, a draw, and three losses for four points.
