FEU eyes fourth straight win to end the first round
Far Eastern University wants to continue its hot streak to close the first round of eliminations.

After a huge morale-boosting win over erstwhile unbeaten team National University, Far Eastern University sets its sights on closing the first round of eliminations on a high note Saturday in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena.

The Lady Tamaraws will take on a fierce University of Sto. Tomas side at 2:00 p.m. The match will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA on SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD on SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.

FEU started the season shaky before sparking a three-game winning streak capped by a 25-22, 25-27, 25-13, 25-20, win over the Lady Bulldogs Wednesday in a shocking upset.

The Lady Tams are on a three-way tie with two-time defending champion De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University at second to fourth spots with 4-2 win-loss slates.

Bernadeth Pons, Toni Rose Basas and Celine Domingo, who all logged in double-digit productions the last time out, are expected to provide the firepower needed to suppress the Tigresses’ arsenal led by the explosive Sisi Rondina.

UST, on the other hand, is coming off back-to-back setbacks at the hands of NU and University of the Philippines.

The Espana-based squad bowed to the slumping Lady Maroons, 33-31, 23-25, 16-25, 12-25, Wednesday despite the 23-point effort of Rondina.

Dimdim Pacres, Tin Francisco and Carla Sandoval need to step up big time to help UST improve its 2-4 slate it shares with UP.
