Wendell Comboy will not be denied in his quest to give FEU the first-ever UAAP 3x3 Men’s championship
An unlikely champion emerged in the first-ever UAAP 80 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Catching fire just when his team needed it the most, Wendell Comboy shot Far Eastern University over Alvin Pasaol and University of the East, 21-13, on Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.
Heading into the inaugural tournament, De La Salle University and University of the Philippines were billed as favorites.
Come the semifinals, it was then the Pasaol show as he scored 17 points in the semifinals to power the Red Warriors right through National University and into the Finals.
There, however, they were frustrated by Comboy and FEU.
Comboy not only matched the output of Pasaol, but outdueled him each and every step of the way.
The incoming fourth-year guard had 11 points to his name and his hot shooting propelled the Tamaraws to a win still with 2:06 to spare.
Richard Escoto and Kenneth Tuffin chipped in five and four points, respectively, in the historic win.
A historic win that crowned FEU, the season's host, as the king of UAAP 3x3.
The runner-up to the first-ever UAAP 3x3 is UE which was led Pasaol and his nine points in the Finals.
