Lady Bulldogs extend reign over to UAAP 3x3

Afril Bernardino and NU are now also the team to beat in UAAP 3x3 Women’s
3x3 is very, very different to five-on-five – not just for National University.
Translating their full-court dominance over to the halfcourt, the Lady Bulldogs left no doubt in claiming the first-ever UAAP 3x3 championship on Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.
With three-time UAAP MVP Afril Bernardino and reigning best player Jack Danielle Animam leading the charge, the girls from Sampaloc also lorded over the rest of the competition in the inaugural 3x3 Women’s Tournament.
NU took care of business against groupmates Far Eastern University, University of the Philippines, and University of Sto. Tomas in the preliminary round before outclassing Ateneo de Manila University in the semifinals.
Then in the Finals, they made quick work of Adamson University, 15-6.
Bernardino was still Bernardino, even though she hasn’t played a UAAP game in over a year and made an impact all over the floor
Whatever shot she missed or good look she created, Animam and fellow tower Annick Tiky were there to make good on it.
And when Bernardino was resting, it was Ria Nabalan’s turn to have at it and actually topped the scoring column in the ultimate game with seven points to her name.
Now, the Lady Bulldogs are yet again peerless and have yet again swept the rest of the field.
This, coming on the heels of three straight perfect seasons and an amazing 64-game win run in the Women’s Basketball Tournament.
They fell victim to the queens of college basketball, but a runner-up finish remains a great showing for the Lady Falcons composed of Jamie Alcoy, April Cabug, Jhona Lacson, and Nathalia Prado,
