De La Salle University's Kim Kianna Dy gets the nod as the UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week.
Kim Kianna Dy proved to be the key to the two-time defending champion De La Salle University’s victory over archrivals Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles, meriting her the UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week (POW) recognition.
Dy exploded with a personal season-high of 21 points off 11 spikes, seven kill blocks and three service aces, aiding the Lady Spikers in snapping the Lady Eagles’ four-game winning streak with a 25-20, 25-17, 24-26, 25-20, win Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The opposite spiker vowed to head coach Ramil de Jesus that she would makeup for her lackluster performance in La Salle’s four-set loss to Adamson a week ago.
Her efforts allowed the Lady Spikers to get back on their winning ways for a 5-2 win-loss record at second spot tied with Far Eastern University.
"After naming matalo sa Adamson, nag-message sa akin 'yung bata na 'yan. Sabi niya, sorry, nag-sorry and then babawi ako. Eto naman, pinakita naman niya,” said de Jesus.
Dy was convinced of the fact that the Lady Spikers needed to bounce back and regain their confidence.
“I think, coming from a loss kasi, kailangan talaga naming mag-bounce back. And we need to get that confidence again,” said Dy.
Dy was chosen over other POW candidates University of the East’s Shaya Adorador and Kath Arado, Far Easter University captain Bernadeth Pons, National University stalwart Jaja Santiago and University of the Philippines’ leading scorer Tots Carlos.
