FEU's Pons: Kailangan mahanap namin yung sarili namin
The FEU Lady Tamaraws prepared much for the season sweep against Ateneo, but their urge to make it happen just never happened, said Bernadeth Pons.
FEU Lady Tamaraws team captain Bernadeth Pons admitted that their urge to repeat against the Ateneo Lady Eagles got too much into their heads, never materializing in their 19-25, 21-25, 17-25 loss against last year's runner ups.
The girls from Morayta, who fell to a 5-3 slate and are now tied with Ateneo, prepared much for the season sweep, but their urge to make it happen just never happened, said Pons.
"Yung galaw namin, parang nanggigigil namin pero wala sa timing. Yung ganoon. Maganda rin talaga yung ginawa ng Ateneo."
Coming from a strong first round which saw them come out second only to NU, FEU's morale was sky-high, but it took a quick turn courtesy of their loss.
"[Sa Thursday], kailangan mahanap namin yung sarili namin. Hindi yun yung laro namin. Mahaba pa eh. Marami pa naman kaming makakalaban kaya kailangan namin mag-bounce back."
Pons, who only scored five points in her outing, is still confident that her team can bounce back, as they aim to make a run at the Final Four.
As they face the crumbling UST Golden Tigresses on Wednesday, with UST facing in a virtual do-or-die situation in order to extend their season, the Negros native hopes that her team can end immediately end their frustration from the loss, and get back on the winning track as they have a week's worth of time to prepare.
Pons vowed that even though the Tigresses are struggling, she assured that the team won't be taking their historical rivals lightly, and prepare for them just like any other team.
"Parehas kaming gutom na makabawi. Basta, gagawin namin yung laro ng bawat isa ay i-apply naming lahat ang matuturo ng coach kasi kailangan namin na ibalik yung confidence namin."
