Ateneo de Manila University bounced back from a previous loss with a straight sets win over Far Eastern University.
Ateneo de Manila University bounced back big time with a convincing 25-19, 25-21, 25-17, win over first round tormentor Far Eastern University Wednesday in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Jho Maraguinot delivered 15 points highlighted by 14 spikes to tow the Lady Eagles to a 5-3 win-loss record tied with their victim, which defeated Ateneo in five-sets in the season-opener.
Kat Tolentino scored 11 markers while Season 79 Rookie of the Year Jules Samonte and Bea De Leon combined for 15 points for the Lady Eagles, who made FEU top hitter Bernadeth Pons bleed for points.
The Katipunan-based squad needed only 81 minutes to get its rebound win against the Lady Tamaraws, who saw their four-game winning streak snapped, after a four-set defeat at the hands of archrival two-time defending champion De La Salle University last Saturday.
Ateneo converted utility Ponggay Gaston to libero to help the Lady Eagles prevent a repeat of their 20 service aces allowed in their first meeting with the Lady Tamaraws. FEU only had three service winners this time.
Pons was limited to a personal season-low five points while Toni Basas and Celine Domingo registered 10 and seven markers, respectively, for the Lady Tams.
