The UST Golden Tigresses and the UE Lady Warriors figured in a historical match Wednesday afternoon, but UST ended the game on the wrong side of it.
For the very first time in the Final Four era, which commenced in 1994, the Tigresses lost a match against the girls from Recto.
Fourth-year player Sisi Rondina was left almost speechless after the game, and tried to contain her mixed emotions when asked about her feelings about the four-set loss against UE.
"Wala akong ibang masabi eh kundi, bibitaw na lang ako (ng salita) na tatrabahuhin na lang talaga namin kasi nandoon na eh pero kulang pa rin, lapses pa rin," a visibly frustrated Rondina said after the game.
In the loss, the top scorer for the first round of the tournament showed up again, posting 25 points, virtually winning the only set UST clinched.
After a lengthy talk with her teammates after the loss, Rondina had no words to mince and only carried one more message for herself and her team for the rest of the second round.
The Cebu native vowed to fight for pride, not only for herself, but for the whole 40,000-plus students and faculty that they represent in the competition.
"Wala akong ibang masabi talaga, promise. Ano na lang, ipaglalaban na lang namin kung ano ‘yung pa ‘yung kaya naming ilaban sa sarili namin and lalung lalo na sa university namin."
