University of the Philippines ripped University of Sto. Tomas to open its second round campaign on a high note.
Wendel Miguel and John Millete came up with double-digit productions to lead University of the Philippines to a 28-26, 25-18, 25-23, victory over skidding University of Sto. Tomas to boost its Final Four bid in the 80th UAAP men's volleyball tournament Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Miguel scored all but one of his 16 points on attacks for the Fighting Maroons' third win in eight outings that tied their victim in the standings to open the second round.
Millete also pounded the bulk of his 14 points on 13 kills while John Mark Castillo and Gian San Pascual combined for 15 markers as the Diliman-based squad completed an elimination round sweep of the Tigers.
The Maroons needed to comeback from a set down to eke out a five-set first round victory over UST just a week ago.
The Tigers' losing woes continued as they dropped their fourth straight defeat.
Joshua Umandal posted 15 points anchored on 14 kills while Arnold Bautista registered 10 markers in a losing effort for the Espana-based squad.
