UAAP Season 80 Men's Football: FEU drops UE for second win
Resty Monterona scored twice to help FEU take down UE in UAAP Season 80 Men's Football action

Far Eastern University scored their second win of the UAAP Season 80 men's football tournament after coming back in the second half to take down University of the East, 3-1, Thursday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

With the Red Warriors on a tear after back-to-back wins at the end of the first round, it looked as if they were about to keep rolling against an FEU side that has struggled throughout the season.

Seven minutes in, striker Mar Diano drew first blood for UE to take a 1-0 lead into the half.

It was a different story in the second 45-minutes of action however, as substitutes Resty Monterona and the returning Arnel Amita made their presence felt for the Tamaraws.

Monterona found the equalizer off a UE error in the 70th minute, and then doubled up three minutes later to put FEU ahead, 2-1.

The Tamaraws pulled away in the 85th minute after Gilbert Mendoza Jr. connected on his fourth goal in the last two matches to give FEU a two-goal lead, 3-1.

UE tried to pull one back late with two shots on target that bounced off FEU keeper Dave Parac, preserving the Tamaraws win.

"I think in the first round, we were really not prepared, both mentally because of the number of players we lost, and with the injuries we still had. With a roster of only 16, I think we were unsure of ourselves," said FEU head coach Vince Santos, talking about the Season 79 runners-up's first round struggles.

Santos continued that there were times when FEU showed just how good they could be, and will look to keep those times in mind as they try to make a run for the Final Four in the second round.

"There were some matches there that we showed what we are capable of, for the second round I think we just go back to those instances, to those moments wherein we played well. We just have to focus and be more consistent in the second round."

With the win, FEU improves to two wins, two draws, and four losses for eight points.

UE drops to three wins, one draws, and four losses for 10 points.
