Yeah, main attacker (ako), pero hindi ko ‘yun magagawa kung wala ang teammates ko. So hindi ako ‘yung nag-take charge, kami ang may gusto noon, kami ang lumaban -- Tots Carlos
Tots Carlos blasted 22 points including two crucial points in the closing stretch of the fifth set to help University of the Philippines survive a tough battle against Adamson University.
But the third-year hitter was quick to deflect all the credit in the Lady Maroons’ 25-18, 14-25, 25-19, 21-25, 16-14, win Saturday in their 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament second round elimination opener at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
“Hindi naman ako lang eh kasi hindi naman ako makakapalo kung walang pasa, said Carlos, who had 20 attacks and two kill blocks for the Diliman-based squad’s third win in eight outings to tie their victim and first round tormentor.
The Lady Maroons squandered a 12-10 lead in the fifth frame and saw the Lady Falcons take a 14-13 advantage. Carlos was there to answer with back-to-back off the block kills before Ayel Estranero scored on a well-placed shot to steal the match.
“Yeah, main attacker (ako), pero hindi ko ‘yun magagawa kung wala ang teammates ko,” said Carlos, who is averaging 19.6 points per game. “So hindi ako ‘yung nag-take charge, kami ang may gusto noon, kami ang lumaban.”
Carlos stressed that it was an all-out effort from the squad that pulled them through.
Isa Molde had 18 points and 23 digs while Estranero got 31 excellent receptions, 12 digs and seven points for UP, which kept its Final Four hopes alive.
The fifth set was a good test of character for the team and Carlos hopes that it will be a start of something big for the team.
“Syempre kapag fifth set pantay-pantay na lang ‘yan so palakasan na lang ng loob,” she said. “Nakita naman natin past games namin hindi kami halos lumaban so ngayon laban lang talaga.”
