Jaja Santiago will try to rally National University to a repeat conquest of two-time defending champion De La Salle University.
Jaja Santiago and National University brace for a tough battle when they meet two-time defending champion De La Salle University Saturday in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament second round elimination at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Spikers, 24-26, 25-19, 25-22, 17-25, 14-16, last February 18.
NU closed the opening round on top of the standings with a 6-1 win-loss slate.
Santiago knows that DLSU will be itching exact revenge when they march at center court at 4:00 p.m. The match will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA on SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD on SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.
“Alam namin na talagang babawi at babawi ang La Salle, pero pagta-trabahuhan namin, pag-iigihan namin. Laban lang ng laban, kahit sinong kalaban, sige fight, ganun,” said Santiago, who is averaging 20.14 points per game. “Hindi naman namin kailangang mamili ng kalaban kasi lahat naman sila pagdadaanan namin, so kahit sino 'yung mauna, kailangan 'yung attitude mo, palaban lang at ready.”
NU is coming off a 25-23, 25-23, 25-17, demolition of University of the Philippines last week.
After a devastating loss to Adamson University, DLSU vented its ire on archrival Ateneo de Manila University, 25-20, 25-17, 24-26, 25-20, last week.
The Lady Spikers, who spot a 5-2 slate, will pin their hopes on reigning Most Valuable Player Majoy Baron, Kim Kianna Dy, who had 21 points the last time out, Desiree Cheng, setter Michelle Cobb and libero Dawn Macandili against Santiago, Aiko Urdas, Risa Sato, Jorelle Singh and playmaker Jasmine Nabor.
