UAAP VOLLEYBALL: Ateneo claims eighth straight win, secures at least a Final Four spot playoff

Three-time defending champion Ateneo de Manila University claimed its eighth straight win and secured at least a Final Four berth playoff.
Four-time Most Valuable player Marck Espejo feasted on Adamson University’s brittle defense as he fired 23 points to lead the three-time defending champion Ateneo de Manila University to a 25-19, 26-24, 25-22 cakewalk over Adamson University Wednesday in the 80th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.
The Blue Eagles extended their winning run to eight for an 8-1 win-loss record at the solo top spot. The victory also secured Ateneo at least a playoff for a Final Four spot.
Espejo’s scoring prowess was in full display with 16 attacks, four kill blocks and three aces while adding 17 excellent receptions for the Katipunan-based squad.
Sophomore hitter Ron Medalla chipped in with 15 points, skipper Karl Baysa had 10 markers while playmaker Ish Polvorosa tallied 29 excellent sets for Ateneo.
The Blue Eagles handed the Falcons their sixth defeat in nine outings.
Paolo Pablico was the only Adamson player in double figures with 18 points while Philip Yude was limited to only seven markers.
