Far Eastern University will take on a desperate University of Sto. Tomas.
University of Sto. Tomas’ fate in the Final Four race will be decided Wednesday in an all-important showdown with Far Eastern University in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.
Down with four straight defeats including a devastating four-set loss to University of the East to open the second round, the Tigresses are in a dangerous position of missing the semifinals cut.
Another setback in its 4:00 p.m. battle against the Lady Tamaraws will put UST’s campaign for a Final Four berth out of the Tigresses’ hands.
The duel will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA on SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD on SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.
“Mayroon pa akong anim na laro. Next game namin FEU, doon na made-decide. Doon na makikita kung ano ang mangyayari,” said UST coach Kungfu Reyes, whose wards suffered a humiliating 23-25, 25-18, 26-28, 24-26, loss to the Lady Warriors last week for the first time since the implementation of the Final Four format back in 1994.
The loss pulled the Espana-based squad to 2-6 mark tied with its tormentor.
“So hangga’t di pa nagsasara ang telon ng Season 80 kung anu’t ano man ang pupuntahan ng pagtatrabaho namin ngayon season na ’to siguro naman malaking aral para sa pagbalik sa susunod na mga laro pa,” he added.
But FEU will be a tough challenge for UST.
The Lady Tams are itching to bounce back after a 19-25, 21-25, 17-25, loss to Ateneo de Manila University a week ago.
FEU is tied with Ateneo at third to fourth spots with 5-3 slates. The Morayta-based squad are looking to duplicate its straight sets demolition of UST at the end of the opening round
