Far Eastern University secured at least a playoff for a Final Four berth Wednesday after a quick work of University of the Philippines, 25-22, 25-20, 25-21, in the 80th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Tamaraws needed only 77 minutes to dismantle the Fighting Maroons for their second straight win after a huge upset over three-time defending champion Ateneo de Manila University.
FEU improved to 8-2 win-loss record to climb to a share the second spot with the Blue Eagles.
Redijohn Paler and Jude Garcia led the way with 13 points each while John Paul Bugaoan finished with 11 markers for the Tams, who rained down 45 attack points while putting up a solid net defense that they converted into 12 kill blocks.
The Diliman-based squad absorbed its second straight defeat to fall at 3-7 slate and is now on the verge of missing the Final Four berth cut.
Wendel Miguel was the only UP player in double figures with 13 points while John Mark Millete and John Mark Castillo scored eight makers each.
