Adamson University gets payback against first round tormentors National University.
Adamson University gave National University head coach Babes Castillo and the rest of the Lady Bulldogs another headache.
The Lady Falcons avenged their first round loss against the Lady Bulldogs with a 25-19, 25-15, 18-25, 25-13, victory Wednesday in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Adamson moved to solo fifth with a 5-5 win-loss record as the Lady Falcons, who won their second straight, handed NU its third straight defeat.
“Yeah, I mean we knew how important this match was today for us. Every game from here on out, we're playing to get to the Final Four,” said Adamson coach Air Padda.
“We told them earlier, it's not Adamson vs. NU, it's not like a regular game. This is gonna be the basis of our survival for the season,” she added.
Skipper Jema Galanza finished with 16 points - all but one coming off attacks - and 11 excellent receptions, Mary Joy Dacoron got 13 markers while Mylene Paat added 11 for Adamson. Graduating setter Fenela Emnas tallied 35 excellent sets for the Lady Falcons, who got 39 free points off NU's errors.
Rookie Chiara Permentilla skipped her second straight game for Adamson to rest a sprained left ankle.
With Adamson smelling blood after taking a 2-1 match lead, the Lady Falcons opened a huge 16-8 gap in the fourth set to dictate the pace of the frame on their way to sealing the win in one hour and 36 minutes.
The Lady Bulldogs slid to 6-4 slate tied with Far Eastern University at third to fourth spots.
Jaja Santiago was the only NU player in double figures with 21 points off 17 attacks, two aces and two kill blocks with 11 digs. Risa Sato had nine markers while hitters Aiko Urdas and and Jorelle Singh were stymied to a combined nine points for the skidding Lady Bulldogs.
