UAAP VOLLEYBALL: DLSU punches a return ticket to the semis

Grand slam-seeking De La Salle University booked a Final Four berth.
Two-time defending champion De La Salle University booked the first Final Four ticket after a clinical 25-8, 25-14, 25-12, crushing of University of the East Saturday in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Taft-based squad collected its fifth straight win to solidify its hold of the solo lead with a 9-2 win-loss record. DLSU advanced in the semis for the ninth straight time and 10th postseason appearance in a row including an outright championship berth in Season 76.
The Lady Spikers were all business the whole match, building insurmountable lead early in a display of their full arsenal for the 69-minute victory.
Skipper Majoy Baron had 13 points, Kim Kianna Dy got 11 while Desiree Cheng, Tin Tiamzon and Aduke Ogunsanya chipped in nine, seven and six points, respectively, for DLSU. The Lady Spikers uncorked 39 attacks, with nine kill blocks and five service aces.
DLSU head coach Ramil De Jesus stressed to his wards not to take UE lightly. The Lady Spikers defeated the Lady Warriors in straight sets in their first meeting.
“Well after noong first round against UE so galing kami sa talo kasi noon eh so sabi ko itong second round maganda na ang pinapakita ng UE, lahat tinatalo, halos di makunan ng straight sets,” said De Jesus. “So sabi ko dapat kailangan natin irespeto ang UE, paghandaan and hindi pupwedeng magkaroon ng kumpyansa sa loob ng court.”
UE officially bowed out of the semis contention with a 2-9 card.
No Lady Warrior scored in double figures with Shaya Adorador limited to only five points while Seth Rodriguez, Mary Anne Mendrez and Judith Abil combining for only 10 markers.
