UAAP VOLLEYBALL: UST fuels Final Four drive

University of Sto. Tomas remained on the right track for a Final Four berth.
Joshua Umandal led two other University of Sto. Tomas players in double-figure scoring after fueling the Tigers’ Final Four bid with a 25-22, 25-20, 14-25, 25-21 win Sunday in the 80th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the Big Dome.
Umandal scored 18 points anchored on 17 attacks to pace the Espana-based squad, which took the solo fourth spot with a 5-6 win-loss record behind semis-bound teams National University, Far Eastern University and three-time defending champion Ateneo de Manila University.
Manuel Medina scored all of his 12 points from attacks while Tyrone Carodan had 11 markers for UST, which received 29 free points off the Green Spikers’ errors.
The Tigers completed an elims sweep of DLSU, which UST defeated in five sets in their season opener.
Raymark Woo had 20 points while Arjay Onia got 16 markers for the Green Spikers, which dropped to 4-7 slate.
Cris Dumago posted 11 points while Kieffer Reyes collected 10 for the Taft-based squad.
