Aldin Ayo and University of Sto. Tomas are wasting no time getting together.

With the first-year head coach needing to immediately impart “Mayhem” to his holdovers as well as several recruits and returnees, the Growling Tigers are headed to Ayo’s native Sorsogon to get some bonding done.

According to the multi-league champion coach, this will be the first time his current crop of players will all be present. “Hindi pa kami nakukumpleto sa practice since karamihan ng recruits namin come from high school,” he said.

He then continued, “With the preseason tournaments coming up, we needed a team-building session. That’s why we will stay sa house namin sa Sorsogon during Holy Week.”

UST has been hard at work in shoring up its talent pool by drawing from the high school ranks, securing the services of UAAP Juniors MVP CJ Cansino (UST HS) , NCAA Juniors MVP Mike Enriquez (Mapua University), Sam Abu Hijleh (San Beda High School), Toby Agustin (Jose Rizal University), Kobe Caballero (JRU), Sherwin Concepcion (Mapua), and Makoy Marcos (La Salle Greenhills).

These new names will add to last year’s core that incudes Steve Akomo, Marvin Lee, and Jordan Sta. Ana as well as returning players Embons Bonleon and Renzo Subido.

Now, from March 25 to April 3, the Growling Tigers will spend time with nobody else but each other in their new mentor’s hometown. “Madami kaming nakaplano. We’ll have conditioning sessions, pero siyempre, we’ll have time to go around sa tourist spots namin,” Ayo shared.

Of course, the Espana-based team will not forget to profess their faith – especially to the Our Lady of Penafracia. “Most importantly, we will also do our spiritual obligations for Holy Week,” the head coach said.

After this, Ayo will debut for new-look UST in the looming 2018 Filoil Flying V Preseason Tournament.
