Wala kaming pandiin na pang-finish talaga -- Rondina on loss

University of Sto. Tomas came a set win away from boosting their bid for a Final Four berth.

But a fourth set collapse and a bad start in the fifth frame did the Tigresses in as the Espana-based squad dropped a sorry 22-25, 25-20, 25-16, 17-25, 9-15, loss to Ateneo de Manila University on Wednesday in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Tigresses fell to 4-8 win-loss record tied with University of the Philippines and are on a precarious situation of missing the semifinals cut.

UST was in control early in the fourth only to slowly fade as the Lady Eagles behind their legion of fans inside the arena rallied to force a decider.

The Tigresses then went down, 4-12, in the fifth. UST mounted a comeback attempt but came a little too late as Ateneo completed an elims sweep of the Tigresses.

With their backs against the wall, UST now must win in their last two assignments against on two-time defending champion De La Salle University Sunday and Adamson University on April 14.

Luckily, National University (6-6) dropped its fifth straight game at hands of UP in a 25-18, 25-22, 25-20, rout also Wednesday.

The Tigresses can still force a playoff for the last Final Four spot if they sweep their remaining games and if both NU and Adamson (5-6) won’t reach seven wins.
