School owner Hans Sy (second from left) and all of NU are nothing but happy that Migs Oczon (third from left) will still be wearing blue and gold as he continues to be a deep-range marksman and a defensive stopper.
Don’t look now, but National University has one of the biggest recruiting hauls in recent history.
Already with John Lloyd Clemente and Darrel Menina ready to play and not long after securing the services of UAAP Juniors champion Dave Ildefonso, the Bulldogs are also welcoming with open arms freshly-crowned National Basketball Training Center champion Migs Oczon.
NU head coach Jamike Jarin himself shared the development to ABS-CBN Sports.
The 5-foot-11 swingman was a fixture for Chiang Kai Shek College’s contending teams before transferring to Nazareth School of NU in 2017 for his first and last season in the UAAP.
There, he exhibited the deep range and the energetic defense that made him one of the best end-to-end prospects in high school.
Oczon averaged 9.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists throughout the Bullpups’ run that ended with them as runners-up to Ateneo de Manila High School.
Still, NU was able to prevent the Blue Eaglets from a dominant season sweep. Much of it was because of their 17-year old sharpshooter who dropped eight of his 17 points in the decisive final frame of Game 2.
Now, he will help out a Sampaloc-based squad looking to return to the Final Four stage they have not been to since 2016.
Jarin is nothing but excited about the addition. “These young men will be a big help to our program. We all know Migs Oczon is a two-way player – a solid defender and a proven shooter,” he shared.
