UAAP VOLLEYBALL: Kung bibigyan ng opportunity i-grab namin -- Carlos on UP's semis bid

Kung may chance, kung binigyan kami ni Lord eh ‘di grab (the opportunity) pero hangga’t meron kami na hawak namin ita-try namin, ide-defend namin -- Tots Carlos on Final Four bid
University of the Philippines skipper Tots Carlos knew that their chances of making it into the Final Four of the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament depends on how long the misfortunes of National University will last.
Just one win by the Lady Bulldogs, which carries a 6-6 slate, and the Lady Maroons will again be packing for an early vacation.
With a slim chance of advancing in the semis, UP headed into its match against Ateneo de Manila University without much pressure.
They just want a strong finish.
It did wonders for the Lady Maroons as they pummeled the Lady Eagles into submission 28-26, 25-23, 26-24, Saturday at the MOA Arena to fan their flickering Final Four bid.
“Syempre ‘yung chance namin sa Final Four medyo tagilid so sinasabi na lang namin na no pressure, laro na lang,” said Carlo, who starred for UP with 22 points and eight digs.
“So ayun, kita naman sa laro na no pressure, laro na lang,” she added. “Kita naman sa laro na nag-eenjoy na lang and enjoy every point and walang kahit ano eh. Sobrang saya lang talaga. Sabi nga ni coach (Godfrey Okumu) finish strong so think positive and laro lang kasi sayang naman kung down pa kami last ilang games na lang namin so bigay na namin lahat.”
UP improved its win-loss record to 5-8 while snapping the Lady Eagles’ five-game winning streak. It was the Lady Maroons’ first win against their Katipunan neighbors since the second round of Season 78.
The State U volleybelles can force at least a playoff for the remaining Final Four seat if they hurdle University of the East next week and hope that NU and Adamson University (5-7) won’t reach seven wins.
“Kung may chance, kung binigyan kami ni Lord eh ‘di grab (the opportunity) pero hangga’t meron kami na hawak namin ita-try namin, ide-defend namin,” said Carlos.
