De La Salle University remained on the right track in its campaign for the last Final Four seat.
De La Salle University weathered a fiery comeback attempt by University of the Philippines in the third set to eke out a 25-22, 25-23, 25-20, win and remain in the thick of the battle for the last Final Four berth in the 80th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena on Saturday.
The Green Spikers opened a 16-6 lead in the third frame but the also-ran Maroons gave DLSU a scare with a telling fightback that saw UP breathed down the neck of the Taft-based squad, 21-20.
DLSU answered with a closing four-point swing capped by Arjay Onia’s hammer to seal the Green Spikers’ fifth win in 13 games. The Green Spikers still have an outside chance of forcing a playoff for the no. 4 semis seed if they will win against Final Four-bound Far Eastern University on April 15 and pray that Adamson U (6-6) and University of Sto. Tomas (5-7) won’t reach seven wins.
Onia finished with 20 points, 16 coming off attacks, while Raymark Woo and Cris Dumago had 14 and 12 markers, respectively, for DLSU.
John Mark Millete led UP, which dropped to 3-10 slate, with 18 points.
