National University faces a lot of pressure against an also-ran University of the East in its bid to end a losing skid and move closer to punching a ticket for the last Final Four ticket.
National University hopes to end a long slump and narrow the competition for the last Final Four spot in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Bulldogs will take on an also-ran University of the East side at 2:00 p.m. to arrest a five-game slide.
The match will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA on SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD on SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.
After winning six of their seven games in the first round, the Jaja Santiago-led NU went on an alarming dry spell that saw the Lady Bulldogs lose their chance of ending at the top two spot and get into a precarious position in the Final Four race.
NU dropped a straight sets, 18-25, 22-25, 20-25, showdown with University of the Philippines last Wednesday where Risa Sato and Aiko Urdas went scoreless.
A win by the Lady Bulldogs will formally boot out the Lady Maroons (5-8) and University of Sto. Tomas (4-8) in the semis picture while another loss will put NU in an even more dangerous position. Adamson University (5-7) is also in the thick of the battle for a Final Four berth.
Two-time defending champion De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University and Far Eastern University are all through the semis.
With nothing to lose, the Lady Warriors will be playing the spoilers’ role.
UE is on a three-game losing skid with a 2-9 slate.
