UE notched their fifth win of the season after taking down Adamson University, Sunday.
University of the East kept their playoff chances very much alive after picking up a tough win over Adamson University, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at the FEU Diliman football field.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Red Warriors pushed the pace and finally got on the board early in the second half, courtesy of a Jasper Absalon conversion in the 48th minute.
UE kept pushing their offense with the hopes of adding to their lead, but Adamson keeper Carl Viray stepped his game up to prevent any more conceded goals.
Still searching for their first points of the season, the Soaring Falcons tried to pull even in the dying moments of the match, but couldn’t quite get anything off, allowing UE to hold on for the crucial win.
“Yun lang talaga yung kailangan namin gawin today, yung makuha lang talaga yung three points para at least hindi kami lumayo dun sa Final Four battle,” said UE head coach Fitch Florence Arboleda. “Yun yung talagang target namin today, to win.”
While the Red Warriors pulled out the win, Arboleda felt that there was still a lot to improve on, and it showed against Adamson.
“I expect na we’ll get the game talaga, honestly yung ayaw ko lang ngayon yung nakikita ko mga small details, yung simple passes hindi nila ginagawa ng maayos, so dun ako nagagalit, and then yung last moment, yung finishing, so yun lang talaga yung pinaka-kinakainisan ko sa kanila.”
“Maganda na sana yung build up from defense to middle third, dun lang sa attacking third, so if you noticed, andaming chances pero they way sila kumuha ng scores sana, which supposedly kailangan nilang kunin. Sayang for them.” Arboleda added.
Nonetheless, with the win, UE improves to five wins, one draw, and six losses, good for 16 points, tied with National University and De La Salle University, who are playing against University of Santo Tomas as of press time, for fourth place in the standings.
Adamson on the other hand, suffers their thirteenth loss in as many matches.
