Ateneo, FEU out to close in on semis advantage
Far Eastern University takes on University of Sto. Tomas with a mission to close in on snatching a semifinals twice-to-beat.

Three-time defending champion Ateneo de Manila University and Far Eastern University take on separate foes with the same mission of securing at least a playoff for a Final Four twice-to-beat advantage in the 80th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Blue Eagles face off with winless University of the East at 8:00 a.m. followed by the 10:00 a.m. duel of the Tamaraws and University of Sto. Tomas.

The matches will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA on SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD on SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.

Ateneo and FEU share the second to third spots with 10-2 win-loss slates behind league-leading National University (11-2).

The Blue Eagles are on a two-game winning streak and are favored to win against the Red Warriors, who lost their first 12 outings.

Ateneo defeated the Tigers, 25-11, 25-21, 25-21, last Saturday.

The Tams are on a four-game roll after opening the second round with a tough five-set loss to NU. FEU dropped Adamson University, 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, last Sunday.

UST holds a 5-7 slate at sixth spot and is still in the running for the last Final Four slot together with Adamson (6-7) and De La Salle University (5-8).

A loss will put the Tigers in a precarious position in the semis race.
