Joe Silva will be moving on from the Ateneo Blue Eaglets, whom he guided to two championships in seven seasons
Only a month after winning its first championship in three years, Ateneo de Manila High School is already facing a tough test.
The Blue Eaglets are bound to be under a new head coach for their title defense following Joe Silva’s resignation.
According to sources, Silva handed in his resignation letter in late March.
The development was then confirmed in a memo from Ateneo HS principal Carmela Oracion.
Still, the two-time UAAP Juniors champion coach fulfilled his obligation as Ateneo HS tactician in the 2018 National Basketball Training Center National Finals as well as in an international tournament in Taiwan.
In all, Silva won two championships for the Blue Eaglets, both near-season sweeps, and had a 77-20 record.
During that time, he had a hand in the development of the likes of Thirdy Ravena, Nieto twins Matt and Mike, SJ Belangel, Dave Ildefonso, and Kai Sotto.
It is yet to be determined if Silva will remain part of Tab Baldwin’s staff for Ateneo Seniors.
For the Blue Eaglets, the search is on for the person who will have the unenviable task of following in the footsteps of multi-titled mentors in Jamike Jarin and then Silva.
Whoever that will be will be eased into the transition by having towering teen Kai Sotto as well as new court general Forthsky Padrigao.
