UP and FEU split points for the second time this season.
Throughout the UAAP Season 80 Men’s Football tournament, University of the Philippines has managed a victory over every team except one: Far Eastern University.
Thursday afternoon wasn’t any different, as UP and FEU battled to a draw for the second time this season, ending in a 0-0 scoreline after 90 minutes at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Inability to finish became the story for both sides, as UP and FEU managed to find chance upon chance to score, but ultimately couldn’t convert.
In the end, the scoreboard remained unaltered, and the two sides wound up splitting points.
“Actually, we had a lot of chances at winning the game,” said FEU coach Bo Bae Park after the match. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t score, so the only problem is the attack side, that’s the problem.”
FEU also managed to hold UP scoreless for the first time this season, something that Coach Bo Bae says they’ve paid a little extra attention on.
“We have been training with the back four, how to defend, that’s why now, our defenders followed well today.”
UP head coach Anto Gonzales on the other hand, wasn’t too pleased with the outcome, stating that their first encounter with the Tamaraws was tougher.
“Both games we really underperformed. I thought the first match was more difficult, in the first round, because they really played us hard and tough. This one, we weren’t on point, today, execution-wise, sharpness-wise, we weren’t there.”
With the win, UP tightens their hold at the top of the standings with 33 points off ten wins and three draws.
FEU on the other hand, moves to ten points off two wins, four draws, and two losses.
