"Next year, we're not going to wait for anyone to lose. We'll just win ahead and get there [Final Four]" --- Godfrey Okumu.
Year 1 of the Godfrey Okumu era in UP is done.
The Lady Maroons fought well, and while that's nice and all, that's not enough.
That's why for Year 2 of the Godfrey Okumu era in UP, the Lady Maroons plan to do more than just fighting.
They plan to win, a lot.
"In every tournament, I think everyone wants to win," Okumu said.
"Next season, you'd be interviewing me for the playoffs. Not here [exit interview]," he added.
Bold proclamation from the UP coach.
The Lady Maroons missed out on the Final Four again this year, finishing with a 6-8 record. Last season, UP missed the playoffs too despite starting the year 4-0.
The Lady Maroons last made it to the Final Four in Season 78 as hosts, finishing with an 8-6 mark.
"This year we were waiting for NU to lose so that we get a chance," Okumu said.
"But next year, we're not going to wait for anyone to lose. We'll just win ahead and get there [Final Four]," he added.
Okumu's words have fired up his top-2 players it seems.
Team captain Tots Carlos is ready to go.
"Ilalaban namin yun. Matanda na kami, so uhaw na kami," she said.
