Far Eastern University guns for at least a playoff for a Final Four twice-to-beat advantage.
Far Eastern University shoots for at least a playoff for a Final Four twice-to-beat advantage when the Lady Tamaraws cross paths with National University on Sunday in the final elimination round playdate of the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Sporting a 9-4 win-loss record tied with Ateneo de Manila University, a victory by the Lady Tams in their 12:00 noon assignment coupled by a loss by the Lady Eagles in their rematch with grand slam-seeking De La Salle University will hand FEU its first semis incentive since Season 71.
The match will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA on SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD on SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.
The Morayta-based squad is riding the crest of its three-game winning streak and is hoping to make a repeat of their first round conquest of the Lady Bulldogs in the first round.
FEU head coach George Pascua hopes that they could capitalize on their first round win over NU as they aim to enter the semis armed with a twice-to-beat. The Lady Bulldogs were on a five-game rampage when the Lady Tams stopped them on their tracks in four sets.
After that loss, NU recovered with a win over University of the Philippines to end the first half of the elims before spiraling down to five losses in a row in the second round.
“Noong tinalo namin sila doon sila bumaba e. Siguro psychologically and emotionally kahit papano factor yun,” said Pascua.
If FEU drops the match and Ateneo hurdles DLSU, the Lady Eagles will take the twice-to-beat advantage. In case of a tie between the Lady Tams and Lady Eagles, the two teams will go on a playoff on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan for the last semis incentive.
NU snapped a long losing skid with a four-set win over University of the East last Wednesday. The Lady Bulldogs will take on the top seed Lady Spikers in the Final Four – NU’s first postseason stint in three years.
