UAAP VOLLEYBALL: FEU secures semis twice-to-beat advantage (updated)

Bernadeth Pons led Far Eastern University to a four-set win over National University to secure at least a playoff for a Final Four twice-to-beat advantage.
Far Eastern University secured the last Final Four twice-to-beat advantage after turning back National University, 25-21, 25-22, 16-25, 25-20, Sunday in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena.
The Lady Tamaraws closed the elimination round with a four-game winning streak for a 10-4 win-loss record and clinched the last semis incentive following the two-time defending champion De La Salle University's straight sets 26-24, 25-17, 25-19, win over archrival Ateneo de Manila University in the second game.
Bernadeth Pons scored 17 points with all but one coming of attacks while adding 16 excellent receptions for the the Morayta-based squad. Celine Domingo got 12 markers while Toni Basas and Jeanette Villareal chipped in with nine and eight markers, respectively, for the Lady Tams.
The Final Four series between FEU and Ateneo will begin on April 21 in the same venue.
The Lady Bulldogs, which will take on the twice-to-beat Lady Spikers in their semis on April 22, finished with an even 7-7 slate – winning only one game in the second round after a 6-1 start in the elims.
Jaja Santiago had 21 points off 15 attacks and six kill blocks while Jorelle Singh got 10 markers for NU.
