Archrivals three-time defending champion Ateneo de Manila University and National University collide in a crucial match where a Final Four twice-to-beat advantage is at stake.
Three-time defending champion Ateneo de Manila University and archrival National University clash for a Final Four twice-to-beat advantage on Sunday in the final elimination round playdate of the 80th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Game time is at 10:00 a.m. and will air live on LIGA on SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD on SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.
The Blue Eagles and Bulldogs are on a three-way tie with Far Eastern University, which will take on De La Salle University at 8:00 a.m., at first to third spots with identical 11-2 win-loss records.
The winner between Ateneo and NU will clinch the semis advantage while the loser could fall to third spot in case the Tamaraws hurdle the Green Spikers.
In case of a 12-2 tie, the team with the highest tiebreak will occupy the top seeding in the semis against the no. 4 team. If FEU loses to DLSU, the Tams will face off with the loser between the Blue Eagles and Bulldogs in a playoff for the last semis advantage.
Ateneo defeated the Bulldogs in their first round meeting.
Meanwhile, a victory by the Green Spikers will force a three-way tie at 6-8 between DLSU, Adamson University and University of Sto. Tomas.
In this scenario, the two teams with the lowest tiebreak will figure in a do-or-die match where the winner will face the team with the superior tiebreak in another playoff for the semis No. 4 seed.
The playoff, if necessary, is set on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
