Two-time defending champion De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University rekindle their rivalry in an all-important end of elimination round rematch.
Grand slam-seeking De La Salle University goes for a sweep of the second round eliminations in a rematch against archrival Ateneo de Manila University on Sunday in the final elimination round playdate of the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Game time is at 4:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA on SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD on SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.
The Lady Spikers are on a seven-game roll in a winning streak that started with a four-set demolition of the Lady Eagles at the end of the first round.
DLSU parades an 11-2 win-loss record and are already locked at the no. 1 seed in the Final Four armed with a twice-to-beat advantage against no. 4 seed National University.
Ateneo, on the other hand, are hard-pressed to snatch a win over the Taft-based squad for a chance to pocket the last semis incentive.
The Lady Eagles are coming off a painful straight sets loss to University of the Philippines a week ago for a 9-4 slate tied with semis opponent Far Eastern University.
A win by Ateneo coupled by a Lady Tamaraws loss to NU will give the Lady Eagles the semis incentive. But a defeat by the Katipunan-based squad coupled by a victory of FEU will put Ateneo in a postseason do-or-die situation for the first time in since Season 76.
In case of a tie between the Lady Eagles and the Lady Tams, there will be a playoff on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan to determine which team will own the semis bonus.
