With UST management’s decision, Renzo Subido will now focus on Tigers

New head coach Aldin Ayo's only hope as of the moment is for the UST Growling Tigers to finally have complete attendance during practices
Renzo Subido will no longer be playing for a Marinerong Pilipino crew which is in the midst of a playoff run in the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.
Instead, the graduating guard will be concentrating on his commitment to University of Sto. Tomas.
And according to head coach Aldin Ayo, this is not a sudden decision. “Matagal nang sinasabihan si Renzo ng management, even before the D-League conference started. Actually, hindi lang sa kanya, but sa lahat ng player,” he said.
Ayo went on to say that as it is his first year on the job, he is still in the process of imparting and implementing his schemes.
And that is difficult to do if the Growling Tigers are always missing players in practice. “Ang main problem namin, hindi kami nakukumpleto sa practices. We’re in the process of establishing our system and the first step doon is yung complete attendance,” the multi-league champion coach said.
He then continued, “Hindi namin magagawa yung gusto naming magawa kung lagi kaming kulang sa practice.”
Ayo has been tasked to rebuild Espana’s once-proud program and he hopes that his players will be all hands on deck holdovers such as Steve Akomo and Marvin Lee will have to be integrated with rookies like CJ Cansino and Mike Enriquez as well as returnees in Embons Bonleon and Subido.
And so, unfortunate as it may be for the Skippers, Ayo said they are just following the orders of UST management. As he put it, “I feel for coach Koy [Banal] lalo na’t nasa semifinals sila, but my hands are tied because it was really management’s decision.”
He then continued, “Si (Institute of Physical Education and Athletics director) Fr. Jannel Abogado, very hands-on sa team and laging nasa practice tapos nakikita niya na minsan, isa o dalawa lang ang nagpa-practice. Kaya he said ne we should make sacrifices and bitawan na yung mga extra-curricular activities para makapag-focus sa team.”
