Up to the last minute, Jaja wanted to keep fighting for NU
ďKahit pa-dulo na ng game, ibibigay ko yung best ko para sa kanila, kahit we fell short dun sa game namin kanina."

In the final set of National University’s three-set loss to defending champions De La Salle University in the UAAP Season 80 Women’s volleyball semifinals, Lady Bulldogs star Jaja Santiago, for rotation purposes, was off the floor for the closing moments.

The six-foot-five Santiago watched from the bench as NU’s season, and ultimately her UAAP career came to a close.

It was a painful exit for Santiago, who played five seasons for NU and helped the Lady Bulldogs reach the semifinals three times.

In Season 80, Santiago led NU to their first Final Four berth since Season 77.

Truth be told, she wanted badly to come back in, even for the closing moments of the match as the Lady Bulldogs stared elimination in the face.

“Kanina gusto ko nang pumasok ulit at hingin ng hingin kay Jasmine [Nabor] yung bola,” said Santiago during the post-game presser.

“Kahit pa-dulo na ng game, ibibigay ko yung best ko para sa kanila, kahit we fell short dun sa game namin kanina."

Santiago finished with a team-high 17 points in the season-ending loss.

For the first two sets, NU kept the match close, losing the first set 27-25, and then 25-22 in the second set.

The defending champions, smelling blood in the water, closed out NU in the third set in dominant fashion, 25-11.

“Gustong-gusto kong pumasok and ipag-laban yun team ko.” Santiago said.
