Ateneo, FEU in a no tomorrow battle for last Finals seat
Graduating hitter Marck Espejo and three-time defending champion Ateneo de Manila University will take on Far Eastern University in the winner-take-all Final Four battle.

For three-time defending champion Ateneo de Manila University and Far Eastern University, their UAAP Season 80 men’s volleyball Finals berth bid will be decided in one final battle at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Blue Eagles and Tamaraws will duke it out on Wednesday for the right to face National University in the best-of-three championship series starting on Saturday.

Game time is at 2:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA on SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD on SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.

Four-time Most Valuable Player Marck Espejo played a monster game with a record-setting 55 points in Ateneo’s 18-25, 25-13, 24-26, 25-23, 15-9 win in series opener Saturday to force a decider over the twice-to-beat FEU.

But Espejo is bracing for a tougher battle against the Tams, who are looking to advance in the Finals for the first time after five years.

“Siyempre 'di natin maiiwasan, 'yung FEU aaralin 'yung Game 1 namin, pero wala naman sa isip ko 'yun, kahit anong gawin nila, bantayan nila ako,” said Espejo, who dropped 47 attacks, six kill blocks and a couple of aces in the Blue Eagles’ first win over the Tams this season.

FEU head coach Rey Diaz need not to think twice on what will be their priority in their do-or-die match.

“Kailangan maging ready, especially how to handle the situation,” he said. “Ganun pa rin, kailangan siguro talaga mabantayan si Marck.”
