UAAP 80 Men's Football: UP, DLSU face off in semifinals
UP and DLSU battle for a spot in the UAAP Season 80 Men's Football Finals

University of the Philippines and De La Salle University both try to make their return to the men’s football finals when they go head to head in the UAAP Season 80 Men’s Football semifinals, Thursday, April 26th at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

UP ended the season on top of the standings with 34 points off ten wins and four draws.

Following the departure of team captain Daniel Gadia, starting keeper Ace Villanueva, and a handful of key rotation players, the question was would the Fighting Maroons remain as top contenders?

The answer was very clear throughout the season, as UP remained at the top of the standings for most of the season and managed to be the only unbeaten team in the field.

With third year stars King Miyagi and JB Borlongan leading the way, UP sets their sights on a return to the Finals.

The last time that UP was in the season finale was just two years ago, when they went all the way in Season 78.

Standing in the way of UP however, is another team that’s eyeing their second Finals appearance in the last four seasons, DLSU.

After not even cracking the Final Four last season, Coach Hans Smit and the Green Archers are back in the semifinals.

While Season 80 was quite the roller coaster for DLSU, they managed to finish at the top four of the standings, thanks the to strong showing of team captain Noel Brago, as well as first-stringers Matthew Custodio and Yoshi Koizumi.

After coming up just inches short of a championship back in Season 77, the Green Archers take aim at the Season 80 crown, but they first need to get past the best team during the regular season.

It’s been two decades since DLSU last hoisted the men’s football crown. They hope to end the drought this year.

UP and DLSU kick off at 4:00 PM.
