Two-time defending champion De La Salle University begins its quest for a three-peat.
Two-time defending champion De La Salle University is not going to take Far Eastern University lightly despite its edge in championship experience.
The Lady Spikers are the favorites in the best-of-three UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball Finals series opener Saturday at the Big Dome as they march in their 10th straight championship appearance.
But head coach Ramil De Jesus knows how dangerous the Lady Tamaraws are.
DLSU needed five sets to defeat FEU in their two meetings in the elimination round.
“Well alam naman natin na first round, second round, both five sets ang inabot namin ng FEU,” said the 10-time UAAP champion mentor, whose wards swept National University in the Final Four a week ago. “So siguro itong darating na Finals, very exciting.”
Opening serve is at 4:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
This is the first time that DLSU and FEU will meet in the Finals since the Lady Spikers dethroned the Lady Tamaraws in Season 71.
DLSU seeks to complete its third grand slam since Seasons 66 to 68 and Seasons 73 to 75.
They will be up against a team in search for its 30th crown.
“Kung sino siguro 'yung mas may gusto, or sino 'yung mas may puso sa game, ayun siguro 'yung suswertehin or papalarin,” said De Jesus.
Graduating players Kim Kianna Dy, reigning Most Valuable Player Majoy Baron and libero Dawn Macandili will spearhead the Lady Spikers’ campaign with Des Cheng, setter Michelle Cobb, Tin Tiamzon and Aduke Ogunsanya.
