Grand slam-seeking De La Salle University goes for the jugular in Game 2 of the best-of-three Finals against Far Eastern University.
De La Salle University head coach Ramil de Jesus knows that Far Eastern University won’t go down without a fight.
So the Lady Spikers mentor braces for another tough battle when DLSU shoots to complete its grand slam bid Wednesday in Game 2 of the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball Finals best-of-three series at the Big Dome.
Opening serve of the crucial match is at 4:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA on SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD on SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.
The Taft-based squad drew first blood as the well-experienced Lady Spikers swept the Lady Tamaraws, 29-27, 25-21, 25-22, Saturday to move a win closer from bagging their 11th crown and third grand slam since making a three-peat in Seasons 66 to 68 and in Seasons 73 to 75.
But DLSU needed to use their championship poise and composure to turn back a feisty FEU side, which is on its first championship stint since Season 71 when the then Rachel Anne Daquis-led Lady Tams surrendered the throne to the Lady Spikers.
So De Jess is not taking any chances. DLSU must close the series in two games.
“Well pipilitin namin na makuha 'yung Game 2, kasi mahirap na pag umabot pa ng Game 3,” he said. “Hopefully matapos sa Wednesday.”
Graduating players Kim Kianna Dy, Majoy Baron and Dawn Macandili are expected to go all out for a fitting farewell game. Providing the support are Tin Tiamzon and May Luna, who had nine points the last time out, while Aduke Ogunsanya and Des Cheng need to bounce back after only a combined five points in Game 1.
Game 3, if needed, is on Saturday.
