Why yes, getting a new football pitch is indeed reason to celebrate.

What's the best way to celebrate a UAAP football championship?

For the newly-crowned UAAP Season 80 Men's Football champions University of the Philippines, it's likely by getting a brand-new football pitch.

After not having a football field to work with for the past two years, it looks like the Fighting Maroons and the UP community are getting one soon, at least, that's what incoming fourth-year UP striker King Miyagi's tweet would lead us to believe.

When asked about the field, Miyagi told ABS-CBN Sports that construction is still ongoing, but the two-time UAAP champion is optimistic that it'll be ready to go soon.

In 2015, it was announced that the UP Diliman football pitch would be undergoing a makeover in partnership with the Philippine Azkals Foundation Inc.

Following a number of setbacks however, the completion date has been pushed way back.

The UP football teams have resorted to working out in the UP Sunken Garden or rent out a pitch to be able to practice, which makes their recent performances in the UAAP even more impressive.

The UP Women's Football team won the title back in UAAP Season 78, while the men's team has won the title twice in the last three years.

"We’ve been working for this tapos yung challenge namin, kahit wala kaming field, nag-pupush lang kami dito. Yun yung motivation namin, na kahit wala kaming field, we’re stronger against adversity na." Miyagi said in an interview before the UAAP Season 80 Men's Football Finals, touching on their lack of a field serving as added motivation. "Yun din yung motivation, kahit walang field, parang yung motivation individually, let’s get this, gutom tayo for this, let’s get this,"

Now, with the Fighting Maroons looking to go fo back-to-back men's titles and the women looking to get back to the top, the new pitch will surely be a welcome addition.
