Ricci Rivero all set to make UP’s future even brighter
After leaving La Salle, Ricci Rivero's teams have been the Gilas Pilipinas cadets and now, Unibersidad ng Pilipinas

Now more than ever, there is definitely nowhere to go but up for the University of the Philippines.

Already with a fully-loaded lineup for Season 81, the Fighting Maroons have just ensured they will remain top contenders for Season 82 after securing the services of Ricci Rivero.

A month after his departure from De La Salle University, Rivero revealed on Friday that he will be transferring to Diliman.

Last season, the 6-foot-2 Rivero had per game counts of 13.8 points in 48 percent shooting, 5.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.6 steals en route to a Mythical selection.

With his transfer, he will have to sit out Season 81 for residency before being eligible to play three more years for State U starting in Season 82.

For now, the 20-year-old Rivero can continue concentrating on his stint with the Gilas cadets.

When he does finally don the maroon and green, he will join fellow national team members Juan Gomez de Liano and Will Gozum as part of UP’s nothing but promising core for at least the next three years.

In Season 82, he will simply step in the shoes of Paul Desiderio, another Gilas cadet, who will have graduated by then.

For that time, UP will parade a lineup of Juan GDL, Gozum, and Rivero to go along with Nigerian powerhouse Bright Akhuetie, stretch four Javi GDL, playmaker Jun Manzo, Filipino-American wing David Murell, and slashing guard Jaydee Tungcab.
