UAAP VOLLEYBALL: Almadro tapped as new Lady Eagles mentor
Oliver Almadro replaced Tai Bundit as head coach of the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles.

Oliver Almadro has been tapped as the new Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles head coach according to sources.

Camille Naredo of ABS-CBN News tweeted Friday that Almadro, who steered the Marck Espejo-bannered Blue Eagles to three straight UAAP men’s volleyball crowns, replaced Lady Eagles mentor Tai Bundit three weeks after the close of Season 80.

Almadro called the shots for the Blue Eagles for six years and gave the Katipunan-based squad a three-peat from Seasons 77 to 79 before falling short in the Finals of Season 80 in two games against archrival National University.

Almadro’s long-time assistant and high school team mentor Timmy Sto. Tomas was promoted as head coach of the men’s squad.

The passionate and very vocal mentor will take under his wings a rebuilding Lady Eagles team that lost top hitter Jho Maraguinot and with seniors Bea De Leon and Maddie Madayag yet to commit for Season 81.

Bundit left the squad after five years. Under the Thai mentor, the Alyssa Valdez-led Lady Eagles won back-to-back titles in Seasons 76 and 77 before seeing their six straight Finals appearances end in Season 80.
