Kib Montalbo will be all good to go when the next UAAP season rolls along
De La Salle University’s thus far impressive run in the 2018 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup will have to go on without its floor leader in Kib Montalbo.
Montalbo had surgery to remove bone spurs on his right ankle last Friday and will be in street clothes for around six weeks.
The graduating guard suffered the injury during the Green Archers’ matchup with the University of the Philippines to open the 2018 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup.
Still, he played in their next assignment, even keying their big-time victory versus the Gilas cadets, before getting himself checked. “At first we thought, sprain lang or tendinitis, pero yun pala, bone spur so kailangan na ng surgery,” he shared.
While La Salle has a share of the league lead in the preseason tournament with a perfect 4-0 record, spitfire guards Andrei Caracut and Aljun Melecio will have to do much more heavy lifting for the backcourt with Montalbo on the mend.
The good news is that the 5-foot-10 two-way player will be back at full strength for the looming UAAP wars in September.
